Sorry, do not intend to be a nuisance. If you are using just a stereo amplifier then they do not have any bass management features. IOW there is not a built in feature for you to set the crossover in the amplifier so that the sub gets everything below 80Hz and the main speakers get everything above 80Hz. So what you have to do, in this case, is run the speaker level output from the amp to the sub which is sent the full frequency signal from the stereo amp. The sub has a built in crossover.
two dual voice coil speakers to a mono amp?
Share on Facebook A bridged amplifier uses the output from the two stereo channels to drive a single mono speaker load. It is often done to achieve a higher output from the amplifier by combining the available power of both channels. While it is not necessary when the amplifier is properly connected to stereo speaker cabinets, a bridged amp may be desirable if the system is to be run in mono.
2 negatives on the left and 2 positives on the right (the o’s being how my sub is currently wired in). Now the amp only supplies watts rms to a 4ohm impedance, but watts to a 2 ohm impedance.
Let me say right up front that you only need to read this article if you are lucky enough that your group is getting bookings in large or outdoor venues. But if you have a good set of main PA speakers that are starting to sound strained at those large gigs, you might want to think about a next logical step. You can send comments, questions, or scathing diatribes to Larry at lmundy attbi. As I said at the end of that article, the result worked great.
This requires PA speakers and amps that can reproduce a full spectrum of sound. For most folks with a decent PA setup, this means simply adding subwoofers and subwoofer amps to extend the low range of the overall system. By their nature, subwoofers are big, heavy things, with giant speakers in thick-walled cabinets, and need to be powered by big, heavy amplifiers. Yes, this is a lot more stuff to load into the truck and lift onto the stage and set up and lift off the stage and cart home, over and over.
One side benefit, though, is that a lot of the zillion-watt instrument amps can be left at home, if you have a truly powerful full-range PA. The guitar player can get the tone he wants from that little vintage amp, and play as loud as he wants through the simple expedient of a microphone strategically placed in front of his little-vintage-amp speaker. The bass player, the keyboard player, everybody can play a little softer through smaller, lighter equipment. As a result they can probably hear fairly normal levels of conversation when the gig is over, a decided benefit compared to the old days when you could tell what size shows a performer played, by how deaf he or she was by age
Speaker Connections for proper impedance match A note about amplifiers: You should always use the recommended load for your amplifier. However, if you must use a load other than the recommended load, here is a short guide.
May 27, · Okay so, plain and simple. I have an 18 inch active woofer and 2 15 inch active tops. I only have XLR cables, no rca, and I need to know the correct/safest way to connect them all via XLR.
The Fat Channel makes dynamics, routing, and panning for every input and output on the StudioLive available at the touch of a Select button. The 24 multipurpose knobs and meters located in the Fat Channel control nearly every adjustment you will need to make on your StudioLive. In addition, two meters—part of a set of seven meters located in the top right section of the mixer—are dedicated to displaying information about the currently selected channel.
Dynamics and Processing The main function of the Fat Channel is to provide dynamics processing and filtering for every input and output on your StudioLive. The rotary encoders work in conjunction with the meters directly above them to adjust the dynamics processing and EQ. Filter which the Gate will open. Page updated on how do i amp 4 speakers and sub? I’ve had friends run Kove 12″s, 4 doors and 2 tweeters off a 5 channel amp before. I doubt it got the sub to it’s RMS rating, but it sounded pretty good and got the job done, I just wouldn’t recommend it like that. I want to amp my tweeters and 6X9’s and my sub, different amps for the subs and speakers I don’t understand how you do it because the speakers have to be hooked up to the head unit right??
The power lead connects from the amp positive terminal to your battery – you will have to route the leads under your carpet. The earth goes from your amp to a suitable earth i.
How to hook up 2 10 inch speakers For best results the output resistance of the amplifier must equal the combined resistance of the speakers. So if the amps says 8 ohms and you have two 4 ohm speakers you put them is series or if the amps says 4ohms and you have two 8 ohm speakers put them in series.
How Do I Hook Up my subwoofer? Hook up Powered Subwoofers: Receiver Pre-Outs Before trying to hook up your subwoofer, you need to identify the connections it has. First, take a look at the back of your subwoofer. There may be more, but this is all you’ll need to properly connect your subwoofer. The last piece of prep work is for you to check your receiver. If you don’t have this output, you won’t be able to connect your sub this way. Refer to Connecting a Non-Powered Subwoofer to get your subwoofer connected.
Necessary Cables for Subwoofer and Pre-Out Connections You’ll need to obtain the following cables to complete your setup: You’ll want a Y-adapter to combine the two RCA jacks on the subwoofer into one. They are labeled Left and Right line-in inputs, but for a typical home theater, you only have one cable coming from the receiver to the subwoofer.
If you don’t have one or don’t want to get one, you don’t need the Y-adapter; just use the left or right input by itself. Plugging in and Hooking up Your Subwoofer If you have a subwoofer cable and a Y-adapter, this is the optimal setup for your sub. Just plug the subwoofer cable into your receiver’s subwoofer pre-out and the other end into the Y-adapter on your sub which is connected to the left and right RCA line-in inputs.

How to install an Amplifier: Disconnect the battery terminals: Run the power cable from the battery to the location of the amp or distribution block.
Jul 29, · Best Answer: look man, these other people dont seem to know what they are talking about. First you need a good quality monoblock amp. Once you find one, check the Ohm load. Once you know your Ohm load, you can look at what speakers fall into the ohm category of the amp. What I mean is if your amp is Stable Status: Resolved.
Are you sure that you want to delete this answer? Yes Sorry, something has gone wrong. First you need a good quality monoblock amp. Once you find one, check the Ohm load. Once you know your Ohm load, you can look at what speakers fall into the ohm category of the amp. What I mean is if your amp is Stable to up to 1ohm, then the combination of speakers that you get should not cause the amp to go below 1ohm, and you should not mix speakers with different ohms, as that is a great way to fry your amp.
Doesnt really matter how many speakers you have, as long as the ohm load is correct. Next all you do is connect all of the speakers positive wires together, and then to the positive side of the amp, and do the same thing for the negative side. A monoblock wont hurt your subs unless it is just too powerful, in that case you would just need to turn the amp down some. Monoblocks are the best amp that you can get for subwoofers, as it is one channel, you get all of the watts that the amp can give, with none lost.
Monoblocks also filter out high frequencies, that can ruin your subwoofer. If you dont have a monoblock, it is still ok, you can bridge your 2channel or 4channel or however many channel amp you have to work just like mono, but with more channels, comes a greater loss of wattage.
How To Properly Hook Up Speakers to Amps
Most of us musicians just want to play music. But, this is the price we pay for playing electric instruments. Though instrument cables used between your bass and amp input look similar, they are not. Speaker cables are thicker.
Rob P: I’m kinda in a tough spot I have a Rockford Fosgate Sub it came setup in their Vented Box wired to 1 ohm it’s a DVC 2 Ohm But my amp only goes from and I want to bridge this single sub for Max power Should I just rewire it to Series for the 4ohms and then Bridge it to 2ohms at the amp?
Certified Quality Entertainment 3: If it’s too bass heavy, turn down your booth, not enough bass, turn it up a little. That’s more of a trial and error than saying keep them at the same level. As long as you are keeping your signal clean no red on your line meters and no red on your master meter, no clip lights blinking on your speakers you will be fine with adjusting as you need Ulrich von Hurtem 4: You need an active crossover. I use and recommend a pre-owned Rane AC22B. Don’t just Y two outputs to one input, to get mono for the sub.
Hooking up sound systems: Your powered sub, likely has a low pass filter, but it’s still important to high pass the tops. Because I don’t have a crossover now and it sounds just fine Ulrich von Hurtem 4: By not asking your tops to produce frequencies, you don’t want or need them to make, you free up cone excursion for the sounds your tops are good at.
Without an active crossover, your top amp is working hard to produce frequencies, that your tops can’t reproduce.
